January Blues?

This impromptu post may very well be an overreaction to the 2 scotch eggs, 2 biscuits, packet of crisps and 5 quality streets that I’ve had this week, but I have felt my motivation wavering since returning from the big apple. Okay, so it’s not the week I confessed a while back (remember the one called ‘This Little Piggy’, where I talked about my daily trips to Five Guys) but neither is this what I should be eating if I’m going to continue with my losing streak. So what’s it all about?

Pre-run face :-/

Tonight was the first night I have almost talked myself out of exercising since starting with Rog. It’s also the first time I’ve wanted to stay at home instead of going out to burn some chub. I was just conjuring up my apologies text to Rog whilst sat on the loo (everyone texts whilst on the toilet right?) when I saw a video he posted on Instagram. Damn it pulled at my heart strings! Go and check it out, you’ll see what I mean (@footmarkfitness). It worked a treat though and I was out the front door a short while later. Yes, it was freezing and yes, it wasn’t easy to get there but I did. Not only did I get there but I also enjoyed it. In fact, I’d say it was my favourite group run all year! It took me all of 4 minutes to warm up and I probably burnt off at least one of the biscuits, possibly both. So what have I learnt? Next time I feel like staying in and being lazy, I’m going to watch that video because the only hurdle to get over is that little voice inside our head.

I’ve felt a bit worried this week and feared that my motivation was escaping me but when I got to the run tonight I realised everyone has been suffering with a little bit of the old ‘January Blues’. It’s freezing out, you can only eat so much soup and quite frankly, staying in under a warm fluffy blanket is more appealing than having a cold runny nose outside. So I’m not going to be too hard on myself. I just need to make better choices moving forward and remember why I started this. Right, time to defrost now in a hot bubble bath. Don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled for my next post. I’m letting you into a different part of my chub rub journey πŸ˜‰
